Alon Amano Campino
Alon Amano Campino, born in 1971 in Beer-Sheva, Israel to a Moroccan mother and Romanian father. His love affair with music began at the age of 13, when he got his first guitar. He learned music quickly by himself and played in the high school band. After finishing army service, he traveled to Holland and Russia to teach Israeli songs and culture in Jewish summer camps and students' seminars. While studying for B.A. in Psychology and Musicology, Alon became very enthusiastic with oriental music. He began to play the Oud and other Turkish string instruments with the guidance of old master musicians, who immigrated to Israel from Iraq and Uzbekistan.
He became a professional musician while studying towards his M.A degree on Child Clinical Psychology at Tel-Aviv University. He made his living from playing in weddings, producing world music concerts and introducing school age children to the music of the Jewish diaspora - in special educational programs that he created. Since January 2004, he is working as a Clinical Psychologist with children. He is a member and producer of "Diwan Halev" – a group that perform ecstatic devotional Jewish chants, plays with Israel Bright, a talented composer and singer, and with a variety of ensembles that make ethnic music (Gypsy, Arabic, Indian etc.).
In Yiddish Express, Alon is blending oriental and Middle Eastern flavors with the Yiddish songs. By this, the Yiddish music stays related to the cultural and geographical context where it is produced.
